the full story
As the appreciation for the impacts of climate on societies steadily grows, the appetite for
climate services is escalating globally. Climate services are meant to improve the ability of “users” to more effectively manage risks, and take advantage of opportunities associated with climate changes on all time scales from seasons to decades. With advances in climate monitoring and forecasting, the potential for effective climate services grows, yet experience has shown that the realization of that potential is limited due to a host of factors, including policy constraints, technical capacities, institutional relationships, and especially communication and collaboration between scientists, service providers, and the ultimate users – decision and policymakers.
Still, new climate services programs and activities are being established internationally, within countries, regions, and within a growing number of institutions. And still more are being contemplated, perhaps awaiting further analysis or evidence of utility.
CIS was established to provide analytical, advisory, and referral services to support the many flavors of climate service initiatives now underway. CIS can provide trusted, well-informed advice and assistance that draws on demonstrated research, the most up-to-date global climate services experience and learning, and a global partner network of leading experts and institutions.
CIS is committed to this vision, and ready to take on your challenges!
